July 6-10th: Bringing Ohio’s Heroes to Life

Cost $40 ($5 2nd child discount)

Johnny Appleseed. Annie Oakley. Neil Armstrong. Harriet Beecher Stowe. These are just some of the names featured in Rick Sowash’s book Heroes of Ohio, and in the Living History class, these are just some of the famous figures from Ohio’s history that we will help you bring to life. Over our week together, you will choose the figure that interests you most and write a monologue from their perspective to perform. We hope you will join us in bringing these people to life!

A list of historical figures can be found at http://www.sowash.com/books/heroes.html

July 13-17th: 10 Minute Scenes
Taught by Abby Stephens
9:00 – 12 noon at Bowling Green Mall
Cost $40 ($5 2nd child discount)
Minimum of 3 and maximum of 12 participants. Recommended ages of 7-10.

In my ten minute scene class, students will learn the ins and outs of the steps needed for a production. Based off of numbers, students will go through an audition in which they will either be cast in a group or a pair 10 minute scene. Each day we will start with a warm up, so students will understand how to mentally and physically prepare for acting. We will then play a series of games exploring emotions, tactics as well as physical choices actors can make. Each day, the students will then watch one scene and help direct the performers. They will then switch and the other group will help the other group. If time allows, students may build small sets for the performance of the scenes on Friday. Overall, I hope to help each individual build confidence in their acting and give them an opportunity to make these short scenes their own.

July 13-17th: Musical Theatre
Taught by Grace Easterly
9:00 – 12 noon at Bowling Green Mall
Cost $40 ($5 2nd child discount)

Do you have dreams of Broadway? Like to sing, dance, and act? Do you like to sing but are nervous about acting? Or do you love to dance but are scared to sing? Come try dancing, singing, and acting in a relaxed and fun class that is sure to make you love what musical theatre is all about!

July 20-24th: IT ALL STARTS WITH IMAGINATION
Taught by Keith Guion
9:00 – 12 noon at Bowling Green Mall
Cost $40 ($5 2nd child discount)
Minimum of 3 and maximum of 12 participants. Recommended ages of 6-10.

Pretending is something children do all the time. And it is, in a way, what acting is all about. We will begin the class with exercises and games designed to stimulate the imagination. Through the week, we will build on this with additional activities that will use the imagination to develop other skills that will benefit the actors in all of us; listening to the room and to each other, using voice and body in creative ways, and working together as an ensemble. On the last day, we will present a Showcase of some of the activities we have explored through the week.

July 20-24th: All the World’s a Stage
Taught by Grace Easterly
9:00 – 12 noon at Bowling Green Mall
Cost $40 ($5 2nd child discount)
Minimum of 3 and maximum of 12 participants. Recommended ages of 10-16.

Grab your passport and come find out about different styles of theatre from all across the globe! Traveling to a different country each day, we’ll explore traditions of dance, puppetry, music, theatre, and even circus performance.

July 27-31st: Clowning
Taught by Wendy Guion
9:00 – 12 noon at Bowling Green Mall
Cost $40 ($5 2nd child discount)
Minimum of 3 and maximum of 12 participants. Recommended ages of 10-16.

In this class students will learn to be clowns by creating a clown face and name. They will learn to put on clown make-up, play some games and put together a skit for the showcase.
